Today, I submitted a message to my list, with the links to 4(!) new JV Giveaways that have opened their doors. (You'll find the links on my 'New JV Giveaways' page.)

At the same time, I kept thinking: how on earth will I ever find the time to check out all the gifts inside?? The truth is... I probably won't. :o(

Ok, many of those gifts I've seen a thousand times before, and most JV Giveaways I end up downloading one or two products, but if I don't go and check out the list, who knows what I'll miss.

I remember, less than two years ago I bumped into my first giveaway. It was a huge event, back then. Almost one of its kind. I loaded up my hard disk, signed up to become a contributor, and my ebiz was born! It's thanks to that first giveaway that I'm here now, doing what I do. if it wasn't for that event, I would probably have been out of Internet Marketing not long after I started.

All that just to say that I love JV Giveaways, and I support them fully. But I'm afraid the concept is dying from its own success.

A couple of weeks ago, I purchased the script myself, planning to run another event, some day. I'm still thinking about a concept, 'cos I want to make it different somehow. In my opinion, that is the only way the idea might be able to survive...

Most of those give aways are IM realted.
I did see a self development give away though.

To get them to work you most probably have to niche them .

Live cooking book give away. Golf give away etc.

This might work and I am working on one myself , then again not sure ow responsive the list will be.

Hi Mieke

I think the JV giveaway events are dying, there just seems to be so many of them nowadays and as you say, they all have the same gifts.

I think that they are great, but the way forward for giveaway events is for them to offer only original and unique gifts like 12 days did.

The other way to make giveaways unique and keep them alive would be to focus just on one particular IM niche.

Hi Mieke,

I always appreciate your emails and blog posts. You have given me insight as I have been starting up in a similar fashion as you stated, joined a giveaway, and plan to build my online business from what I learn day to day. You have produced some great sites and products, so thank you!

I, too, have thought about a giveaway event that needs to be unique. Lately we all have been deluged with so many. I agree with Susanne and "autopilot", that certain IM niches will need to be explored for a target audience.

I've also had some other ideas germinating for unique ways to promote a giveaway with a twist. Perhaps I will contact you through Kanggie or email to discuss that more.

Keep up the great work!
Thank you for all you do.

Paul

In the beginning, JV giveaways were a great thing because it was an easy way to build an IM library fast.

But once it became "popular" the gifts offered were mostly low value and a waste of time. It got to be hard to find something I don't already have or that I need.

With a few notable exceptions, I didn't even bother to look at most of the giveaways over the holidays -- and that are continuing as I type.

What would get my attention would be:

-- truly new, relevant items that I can see being sold elsewhere online, that I can get (with full permission from the creator of it) for nothing

-- tools I can (and WILL) use all year

-- things that will really help me get more subscribers, more paying customers, or make more profits from what I already do

-- tips for how to do things better, faster, easier.

Now all of the above would be some real value.

I don't see it happening. Or if it is, it just looks the same as everything else. So why would I bother?

Thanks for finally stating the obvious, Mieke!

I agree the giveaways are a dying breed but I think only to those of us that have been online for a while. Let's not forget there are thousands of people new to the internet everyday so giveaways (thoug I would like to see some niche ones) are still viable to grow one's list.

Love the stuff you do Mieke.

Hi Mieke (and all),

First time here....deluged with e-mails, am sad to have not been in more contact with you. Am a great fan of yours (and your noteable lack of greed :-).

Having set-up free downloads sections on my site (not as developed as yours yet), close to a year ago, have also greatly (and continue to) appreciate GA events. I feel that there are so many of them now, yet enjoy contributing or recieving when (rare) time allows. The Entertainment Giveaway (believe it's still alive) appeared to have some unique items when I first checked them about a month ago. Other than that, I've grown much more selective in holding onto (and sharing) the downloads. I notice that many giveaways are now extending their 'end-dates' each week.
Immense thanks for this opp. to finally post/chat/introduce myself, as well as for all that you contribute to this IM wild world :-).

Much care,
Richard (RWcare)

Thanks everyone for your comments - and kind words ;o)

The fact that JV GIveaways should become more niche-specific is something many of you agree on.

Just yesterday, on Digital Point Forums, someone asked me what on earth a JV GIveaway event was...
:o)

This made me believe Jim is right when he states the giveaway overload is only a "problem" to those that have been around for a while, and that every day again there are thousands of new people on the internet - all ready and waiting to become one of your referrals ;o)

I agree that there are so many new people online everyday that giveaways are not dead. Look how many people don't even have a paypal or ebay account!
